MASVINGO- The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Masvingo is gearing up for the upcoming Prisons and Correctional Services Day to be held on Friday.

ZPCS Masvingo Provincial Public Relations Officer (PRO) Correctional Officer Tendai Lessley Chamaida said the Prisons Day is an annual event where ZPCS commemorates its role in the criminal justice system by holding provincial level events to highlight rehabilitation programs, showcase inmate innovations, and promote public engagement with restorative justice initiatives.
The commemorations often feature activities such as drill displays, music performances by local artists, sporting events and exhibitions of the skills inmates gain through rehabilitation programs.
“The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) is holding its Prisons and Correctional Services Day commemorations in Masvingo province on Friday, October 10,2025 .
“The annual event aims to raise awareness about rehabilitation and promote the reintegration of offenders into society.
“Holding Prison and Correctional Services Day is important as it recognizes the dedication of correctional officers and highlights the critical role of rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society. It also raises awareness about the need for ongoing prison reforms and community involvement in supporting second chances,” she said.
She said the event which will be held in Mucheke Stadium will be graced by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira.
The 2025 celebration follows the national theme, “Rehabilitation:A Collective Responsibility “.
Through the event, the ZPCS aims to challenge public misconceptions about incarceration and engage stakeholders to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of both inmates and former inmates.
While Masvingo is the main host for the 2025 national event, provincial commemorations are held throughout the country.
