MIDWEEK REPORTER

MASVINGO CITY-Masvingo Sports Club appears unready to host the much anticipated Four Nations Under-19 Cricket Tournament, raising concerns just days before the historic event kicks off.

Despite the significance of the tournament which will see young cricketing talent from four countries converge in Masvingo, the facility remains under renovations.

Ablution facilities are still incomplete, the restaurant area is not fully set up and chairs are yet to be installed. The overall readiness of the venue has been called into question.

Insiders told The Midweek Watch that there is visible panic behind the scenes as workmen rush to complete outstanding renovations.

“There is still a lot to be done. The infrastructure is not ready and time is running out. We are likely going to miss the deadline for completion of renovations,” said one source who preferred anonymity.

Granez Restaurant selected as the sole food provider for the tournament said they are ready to provide all the necessities although the situation on the ground tells a different story.

A visit at the restaurant showed that there is need for final touch-ups like adequate seating area, with no clear structures in place to manage the anticipated large crowds.

Gracious Shonhai who runs the popular restaurant said they have all the suppliers ready from their farm in Mashava and all they are waiting for are for the games to begin.

With teams and spectators expected from across the region, many are questioning whether Granez can cope with the catering demands of such a high profile event.

However, Cricket Masvingo general manager, Emmanuel Dube said the renovations are 80% complete and all will be ready come kick off day.
