MASVINGO-In the competitive world of music, breaking through as a new artist can be a daunting task. But the emerging Masvingo-based hip hop duo, the Southern Kings, seek to defy the odds when they unleash their debut album.

The 10-track album tilted Royal Singles is set to be released mid-March. The project is a showcase of raw talent and unique styles.

In an interview, Southern Kings’ lead artist Macdonald Gwenya stage name Doldo revealed to Midweek Watch that the duo is set to release another video on March 04 which will be a curtain raiser to the album.

The hip Hop artist however lamented the shortage of opportunities for artists in Masvingo saying the lack of platforms and recognition is standing as a barrier for them to succeed.

“We are still recognised as upcoming artists despite that we have been trying to make it in this industry since 2013 because the music industry is very hard for people like us who will be trying to find their feet. The are no promoters who want to look at us or give us the opportunities.

“We need that recognition as artists in Masvingo not to go to Harare and record there. Why can’t we do it in Masvingo and rise from here. Above all we want to put Masvingo on the map that is why it is important for us that we get a platform,” said Doldo.

The new video to be released is called Southern Comfort which puts Masvingo on the map as a place of tourist attraction.
