MASVINGO CITY-The eagerly awaited election for Masvingo City mayor is set for Monday next week after the induction slated for the weekend, one of the elected councillors told The Midweek Watch.
The councillor who spoke on condition of anonymity said all the CCC councillors applied to be considered by the party leader Nelson Chamisa for the post of the mayor.
“We all applied for the position, but rumor has it that Chamisa has already made his choice of mayor and deputy and its just a matter of formality on Monday,” said the councillor.
CCC has 11 councillors while Zanu PF has two and firebrand politician Sengerayi Manyanga has declared his interest to land the post.
Ward 2 councillor, Shantiele Chiwara, Chamisa’s uncle Daniel Mberikunashe and Richard Musekiwa from CCC are considered front runners for the mayor’s post.
Meanwhile, elections for Chivi Rural District Chairman to replace Godfrey Mukungunugwa who is now Chivi North legislator are slated for Monday next week as well with Ward 20 councillor Alec Nhundu poised to land the powerful post.
The 42 councillors from Chivi will undergo induction this Friday at Flamboyant Hotel.
