Masvingo- The City of Masvingo is hosting a vibrant celebration of culture and heritage this week, as part of the inaugural Tourism and Culture Week 2025.

Under the theme “Masvingo-Echoes of the Past, Rhythms of the Present,” the event brings together locals and visitors alike to showcase the city’s rich cultural heritage and modern identity.
Chipo Moyana, the event organiser told The Midweek Watch that all higher education institutions in Masvingo and beyond will be part of the inaugural festival including schools like Ndarama High, Victoria High and traditional dance groups from across the province.
“This is a must not miss cultural week as there will be groups like the energetic Mbungo Brass Band, spoken word artists, drum majorettes, school bands, and many other activities.
“The event will be graced by our local traditional chiefs, ministers, the mayor, school heads, churches and their leadership, in short everyone will be there, so there is no need to miss such once in a lifetime event,” said vivacious Moyana.
She also said the event is supported by Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe, Masvingo Flora, National Arts Council, Masvingo Publicity, Five Bulls Travel and Tours, ZIMPARKS, Great Hotel, and Moana Events.
The City Town Clerk Eng Edward Mukaratirwa confirmed that the week-long festivities will kick off with a colorful carnival, featuring traditional dances, music, and food, which is expected to draw large crowds and set the tone for the celebrations.
“The official opening ceremony, to be graced by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, will be a grand affair, with stirring speeches and captivating performances that will highlight the city’s cultural significance,” said Mukaratirwa.
The highlight of the week is expected to be the Mr and Miss Culture Modelling Contest, which will see contestants adorned in stunning traditional attire strut their stuff on the catwalk, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Masvingo’s culture.
“The event will also feature sporting activities, cultural displays, and exhibitions, as well as a tourism symposium, which will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss ways to promote tourism in the region,” he added.
The final night, a Mbira Bira Night, is expected to be a soul-stirring experience, with the sounds of the mbira filling the air and the crowd swaying to the rhythms of the country’s rich culture.
Masvingo City Council officials are optimistic that the event will be a resounding success, and are calling on the public to come out and support the celebrations.
