An accident that happened on September 11 at around 5pm along the Chiremwaremwa-Mashoko dust road in Bikita claimed the life of Trish Javangwe (5) after she was hit by a car and sustained head injuries.

Effort Badza, a resident of Village Panganai under Chief Mabika in Bikita, was driving his Nissan Caravan along the road with one passenger on board.

Masvingo Provincial deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu told The Midweek Watch that as Badza approached the 3km peg, he attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead, unaware of the impending disaster.

The deceased, suddenly appeared on the right side of the road, walking alone, in a split second, the car’s right corner lamp struck the child, sending her tumbling to the ground.

The impact was severe, and the vehicle sustained a damage to its right lamp.

Trish was rushed to Mashoko Mission Hospital, unfortunately the injuries were too severe and she failed to make it and was pronounced dead upon admission.

Patinyu advised drivers to remain attentive and cautious, especially in rural areas where pedestrians, including children, may be roaming around and also parents are also urged to ensure their children’s safety, preventing them from walking alone on busy roads.
