A 39-year-old Mwenezi man died after reportedly complaining of chest and stomach pains while staying at his girlfriend’s home in Chitanga.
The deceased, Calvin Tarugarira of Chief Neshuro area in Mwenezi allegedly left his home on March 3 at around 1400 hours telling his wife that he was going to Rutenga to look for a job.
However, he proceeded to Chitanga where he stayed with his 48-year-old girlfriend until March 6.
According to police, Tarugarira began complaining of chest and stomach pains at around 0700 hours on March 6.
It is also reported that on the same day he had been drinking mapfura beer with his friend.
On March 7, his condition reportedly deteriorated and he could no longer walk, forcing him to remain inside the bedroom hut at his girlfriend’s homestead.
Later that night at around 2000 hours, he allegedly began screaming in pain before dying.
Police attended the scene and the body was taken to Neshuro Hospital for a post-mortem.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Masvingo provincial spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death.
