A Marange man allegedly struck his aunt with a pestle following a misunderstanding yesterday at Matanda village under Chief Marange.

Manicaland police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed that Forget Bisenti (25) was on police wanted list after he allegedly killed his aunt.

“On 15 October 2024 and at 1700hrs Forget Bisenti was crushing wheat in the company of Eve Maadza (33) all of Matanda village together with the deceased Anna Mandiyambira (31).

“After crushing the wheat, Mandiyambira assigned Bisenti to return back the mortar and pestle she had borrowed from Andrew Mutsikwisi’s homestead. When Bisenti was carrying the mortar and pestle, his aunt (Mandiyambira) noticed that his trousers was dropped and accused him of being drunk.

“This did not go down well with Bisenti who in turn responded harshly that he was not drunk.  It is alleged Mandiyambira felt disrespected and picked a brick that he threw towards Bisenti.

“The accused (Bisenti) returned back to his aunt and struck her with a pestle once on the left side of the head and Mandiyambira fell down. Maadza tried to rescue Mandiyambira from further assault but she too was struck once with the pestle on the left side of her face, before she ran away for safety, although she sustained bruises,” added Ass Insp Chinyoka.

Still choked with anger it is alleged Bisenti continued assaulting his aunt with the mortar three times on the head while she was lying helpless on the ground. He also picked a shovel and assaulted her on the left side of the head. After the assault Bisenti went inside the house and collected a satchel with his clothes and went away. A report was made at Mutare Rural police station and accused is still at large.
