Maningi Soccer Academy based in Zaka, Jerera is hosting soccer trials for young girls at the Growth Point on the 28th of this month.

The academy which currently has a team competing in the women’s soccer super league in Norton, aims to establish a high- performance centre for girls in the town.
The centre will provide young girls with the opportunity to develop their skills and become world-class players.

The academy’s coordinator Dennis Jerera emphasized that their mission goes beyond soccer, but also focuses on educating youths about good citizenship and spreading HIV/AIDS awareness. By using soccer as a platform, they aim to make a positive impact on young people’s lives while helping them develop their talents.
“Maningi Queens are part of Maningi soccer academy and are playing in the premier league although based in Norton. We want to afford a chance to girls as young as 6years to develop to world class players. Our aim is to divert young people’s attention from streets into finding something lucrative to do. This will help to protect them from committing crime and engaging in drugs and substance abuse,” said Jerera.
The trials are designed to also give rural girls a chance to participate in soccer, with the ultimate goal of establishing a strong presence in Masvingo. The academy is already working closely with Mutsambwa High School in Jerera and plans to bring together talented young girls from various townships and suburbs across Zimbabwe.
