CHIREDZI-Manica Diamonds FC have maintained their 3rd position after dismissing ZPC Kariba 2-0 at their adopted home, Gibbo Stadium in Chiredzi last Saturday.

Although ZPC Kariba employed some dirty tricks early into the Gem Boys managed to cross the line twice without reply in the exciting Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match.

The Gem Boys underlined their title credentials and sent a clear message about their intentions with Jeffrey Takunda’s  first goal after 30 mins  of the game and their second goal from Ralph Kawondera in the 79th mins of the match carrying the day for them.

The win helped the Gem Boys to remain in top 3 on 42 points behind Ngezi Platinum Stars and Highlanders who are on 45 and 44 points respectively.

ZPC Kariba head coach Luke Masomere “Vahombe ” said that apart from having a bad day in office he believed the boys could have done much better.

“Apart from playing badly and gifting our opponents with two glorious goals, we got some clear cut chances but they were all placed off target, the game could have changed its complexion but unfortunately that’s what happens in football today was not our day.

“We are looking forward to our next game against Ngezi. For the past 9 games we have managed to score 3 goals it’s not good at all but we are trying our best to polish up until the season ends but we are going to achieve our target of surviving relegation,” said Masomere.

Manica Diamonds head coach, Jairos Tapera said that they are not title favourites and they are working on landing the big trophy next season.

“We could have scored more goals in the first half since we were in control of the game with a strong defense, unfortunately we couldn’t, in the second half we also had more than three opportunities.

“However, as a team we are doing well and we have trust in all the players that are doing duty for us this season,” said Tapera.
