GWERU—Police in the Midlands have launched a manhunt for a commuter omnibus driver accused of sexually abusing a seven-year-old while transporting him from school to Mkoba.
Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the case on Wednesday, saying the alleged abuse began on March 12 and occurred on multiple occasions.
The suspect, identified only as Jonso, reportedly drove a school-run commuter omnibus ferrying children to and from school.
Police said the case came to light on March 19 when the child’s mother noticed faecal stains on his underwear while helping him to change at home.
Upon questioning, the child disclosed that the omnibus driver had been abusing him during the journey.
“The victim narrated that the commuter omnibus driver had been abusing him inside the vehicle,” Insp Mahoko said.
The suspect is now at large, and police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
Insp Mahoko also urged parents and guardians to exercise caution when arranging transport for children.
“Do not entrust strangers with your children. Due diligence is essential to ensure their safety,” he added.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
