Nyanga South legislator Supa Mandiwanzira has criticized school authorities for prioritizing the purchase of buses instead of investing in income-generating projects that could provide long-term financial stability.

Speaking at a public meeting, Mandiwanzira said many schools seem overly focused on acquiring buses whenever funds become available, rather than exploring alternative investments that could bring sustainable returns.
“There is an infatuation with buying school buses at every opportunity, yet the same money could be used for projects that generate profits and enhance the school’s financial position,” he said.
While school buses provide convenience for students and enhance school branding, critics argue that they often become financial burdens due to high maintenance and operational costs. Mandiwanzira suggested that schools should instead consider investing in ventures such as agriculture, real estate, or manufacturing to create additional revenue streams. Ya FM
