MUTARE-In an incident that has left the residents of Matida Flats in Sakubva, Mutare shell shocked a man has died in hospital after he was allegedly thrown from 4th floor of Matida Flats as he was caught in bed with a married woman.
The incident happened on Sunday morning and the victim died at Victoria Chitepo Hospital on Monday and burial arrangements are yet to be announced although it is alleged that relatives of the deceased performed some rituals at the scene of the incident today in the morning.
Sources at Matida Flats told The Midweek Watch that the husband, Tawanda Chirenje who has a six months old child with the wife found Gift Saungweme from Chineta in Sakubva as well having quality time with his wife identified as Mai Maka on the 4th floor of the Flats.
The two were allegedly caught in Mai Maka’s friend’s bedroom on 4th floor Matadi Flats when the husband who fled the scene after the crime arrived after being tipped about his wife’s escapades with Saungweme.
It is said after thoroughly beating Saungweme, Chirenje allegedly asked him to either throw himself out through the window or be stabbed with a knife. Sources said he chose to throw himself through the window although other people are disputing that saying he could have been pushed out and he fell head down sustaining serious injuries on the head which caused his death.
Manicaland Police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the matter and added that there is a worrying trend of murder cases caused by domestic issues in the province where 12 cases have been recorded since January.
He said on January 6 this year a man from Nyanga killed his wife and three children before hanging himself as a result of domestic issues.
Recently in Odzi, an 83-year-old was killed by relatives who accused her of causing misfortunes in the family because she was a witch.
Insp Muzondo said old age is not a proxy for witchcraft hence people should not associate their misfortunes to witchcraft and old people in their families.
“Unfortunately, most murder cases in the Province from Buhera, Nyanga, Mutare are a result of domestic disputes and we urge people to seek advice or recourse from the Civil courts or traditional courts if they find out that their spouses are cheating on them instead of taking the law into their own hands.
“In this recent case, the husband could have approached the in-laws for the way forward, but the husband decided to take the law intro his own hands, whether he pushed him through the window or the man was forced to jump to his death we are treating the case as murder.
“When one finds a spouse in a compromising position it is important to exercise restraint as one ends up being charged with murder,” said Insp Muzondo.
