SHURUGWI- Lonyaka Mulambi(43) has been arrested by Police for allegedly killing his wife Runyararo Midzi for stealing US$250 from him and left a note at the scene and fled into the bush.

The deceased was found by her step daughter (14) on her way to school on 1 December 2023 at a homestead in Village 8 Dlemiti, Ward 16 under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi.

Circumstances are that the 14 year old juvenile was on her way to school when she passed through her father’s homestead. She found the round hut bedroom closed and upon opening it, discovered her stepmother Runyararo Midzi, lying on the floor with her hands and legs tied to the bed with a rope, but her father was not there.

She advised neighbours about what she had seen and they gathered at the homestead before reporting the matter at ZRP Tongogara.

The Scene was attended and a deep cut was observed on the stomach. A note believed to have been written by the now deceased’s husband was found near the body indicating that he murdered her because she had stolen his money.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the suspect was already in police custody.

“Investigations that followed led to the arrest of the suspect Lonyaka Mulambi,(43,) yesterday on 2 December 2023 at about 1800 hours in the vicinity of his homestead, after he was found sleeping in the bush.

“The suspect is expected to appear in court.” he added.
