…gets 36 months behind bars

MBERENGWA – Martin Chahondora 32, of Village 8 in Nyengerere area under Chief Maziofa will serve an effective 36 months imprisonment for having sex with a juvenile (13).
Chihondora proposed love to the minor (name witheld) who agreed and they had sexual intercourse on the same day several times.
Chahondora appeared before Mberengwa Magistrate Charity Tonongera last week facing charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor. He was slapped with a jail term of 40 months. Four months were suspended for five years. He will serve an effective 36 months.
Prosecuting Ali Mutause told the court that on January 16, 2023 at around 2pm Chahondora went to the minor’s homestead. He found her alone since her mother had went for a visit at Dambaton. He asked for the girl’s cellphone so that he can send videos.
He then refused to give back the cellphone and ran away to his home. The minor girl followed him and he disappeared into the maize fields and when he came back he persuaded the girl to accompany him to the place where he had hid the cellphone.
At the secluded place he enquired from the girl why she turning down her advances, he kept persuading her until she accepted his proposal and they immediately had sex at the same place.
They stayed in the bush until it was late waiting for people to go to bed. At around 11pm, they went sneaked into Chahondora’s room where they spent the night having sex.
The matter came to light when the girl’s mother came back from Dambaton at around 6 pm of the same day and asked of her whereabouts. She was told that the girl went to Chahondora’s homestead in the afternoon. She followed there but did not find them and went back home to sleep.
On the following day she returned to the accused person’s home and found his sister who told her that the girl came and slept with his brother in the same room. They searched for the girl in accused person’s room but she was not there. The girl was found by her mother’s aunt outside the accused person’s home.
Chahondora was asked if he was in love with the minor of which he denied. A police report was made leading to the his arrest.
