GWERU-An unidentified man lost 7 grammes of gold, US$200 cash and other valuables to three robbers who pretended to be dealers along the Gweru-Mvuma Road near OK Mart on 22 September 2023.
Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch.
Mahoko said that the complainant was at Surprise shops in Shurugwi looking for potential gold buyers with his 7 grammes of the precious yellow metal.
The man was approached by three unknown men who were driving a Honda Fit registration number AFL 5926 who indicated that they wanted to buy his gold.
They gave the complainant US$200-00 and told him that the balance of US$129-00 was to be paid at their place of residence in Riverside Gweru a deal to which the complainant agreed.
They drove from Shurugwi to Gweru and whilst on their way to Riverside near a railway line just after Ok Mart the driver stopped the motor vehicle indicating that it had developed a mechanical fault and they had to proceed on foot.
Whilst in a foot path, one of the suspects hit the complainant with an unknown object on the back of his head and he fell down.
They searched his pockets, stole an Itel A56 cell phone, cash US $200-00 which they had earlier on given him and fled from the scene.
“The suspects are still at large and total value stolen is US$403-00. As always, police needs assistance from those with information concerning
the suspects,” Mahoko said.
