A hit-and-run accident occurred on March 20 at around 9:45 pm on the Harare-Masvingo road, resulting in the death of Regis Madzikanda(22).
According to ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, Madzikanda was struck by an unknown vehicle at the 262km peg along the Harare-Masvingo road.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Madzikanda to succumb to his injuries.
Madzikanda, a resident of Ushewekunze Waterfalls in Harare, sustained a deep cut on his right hand and bruises on his back.
Police attended the scene and took Madzikanda’s body to Masvingo Provincial Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The Masvingo Traffic Police Section has launched an investigation into the incident and is urging anyone with information about the accident or the identity of the driver to come forward.
“We are reminding drivers to exercise caution while driving on the roads,” said Inspector Dhewa.
