Man killed for refusing to buy beer

MASVINGO-A 37 -year old man from Mubaiwa Village under Chief Mugabe in Masvingo was murdered for refusing to buy beer at a business centre.

Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dewa confirmed the incident which occurred on September 17, 2025 at around midnight.

Circumstances are that, on the fateful day, the now deceased Rabson Madziva  was drinking beer at Chikarudzo Business Centre together with his friend Simon Taruona.

It is alleged that, accused person Emmerson Mudavanhu (32) asked Madziva to buy him beer and he turned down the request.

Madziva left for home and later Taruona and Mudavanhu followed him.

They proceeded to Madziva’s homestead where Mudavanhu accused the now deceased for refusing to buy him beer.

Mudavanhu used a firewood log and assaulted Madziva allover his body. He was restrained by Taruona after the now deceased fell unconscious.

They left for their respective homes and the following morning Taruona went to Madziva’s homestead where he found him dead.

A report was made at Muchakata Police Station leading to the arrest of Mudavanhu while Madziva’s body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for a postmortem.

Dhewa urged members of the public to always resort to dialogue to settle disputes.

“We urge members of the public resort to dialogue and avoid settling disputes under the influence of alcohol,” he said.
