A Masvingo man who was allegedly coming from marrying his second sweetheart was involved in a fatal accident along Masvingo Mashava road.

The accident occurred on January 25, 2025, at the 20 km peg along the Masvingo-Mashava road, resulting in the death of one person and injuring three others.
Masvingo Province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch, stating that Tsikisai Kwanisai (54) was driving a Toyota Corolla alone when the accident occurred. Romeo Chapungu, a resident of Richmond in Masvingo, was driving a Toyota Hilux with four passengers on board.
Ester Nyatowo (53), Chapungu’s mother in law a resident of Mucheke D in Masvingo, sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. Three others, including Romeo Chapungu, were injured, with Romeo being in serious condition and the other two in stable condition.
According to Inspector Dhewa, Kwanisai was driving westward when he encroached into Romeo’s lane, hitting the tyre of the Hilux. The vehicle overturned several times before landing on its right side.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and were taken to the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) for inspection. The injured were admitted at Masvingo Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Dhewa urged motorists to abide by the road rules while driving and to be always alert.
