Man axed for causing in law’s divorce

Mberengwa-Prince Makowa (22) of Sokile Village under Chief Mataruse, Mberengwa died at Gweru Provincial Hospital after being attacked by his brother-in-law for causing his dirvoce to his wife.

The incident happened on 19 March 2023 around 2am at his Makowa’s homestead.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the matter, “Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a case of murder in which a 22-year-old Mberengwa man died days after being severely attacked by his brother-in-law. The incident occurred on 19 March 2023 around 0200 hours at village Sokile under Chief Mataruse in Mberengwa.”

It is alleged that Makowa and the suspect Tavonga Chitoro (28) of the same village are brothers in-law.

At the time of the tragedy Chitoro had divorced with his wife and on 19 March 2023 at around 2am, Makowa was asleep outside his house at his homestead when the suspect came and struck him with an axe all over the body accusing him of causing the separation with his wife.

Makowa sustained deep cuts on both legs and right hand and was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital. He was further transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he died after days of admission. Investigations are still in progress.

“Once again, we urge members of the public to desist from resorting to violence when resolving disputes to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” said Inspector Mahoko.
