Man arrested $16k vehicle import fraud

Police in Harare have arrested, Isaac Dhliwayo (52), in connection with a fraud case involving a bogus vehicle importation of a 2016 Honda Vezel valued US$ 16 130.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has confirmed.

The suspect allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that he could facilitate the importation of a 2016 Honda Vezel valued at US$14,000.

The complainant, trusting Dhliwayo went on to pay a total of US$16,130 in cash intending to cover the cost of the vehicle along with importation fees and other related expenses.

The transactions were done between November 2024 and April 2025.

The suspect failed to deliver the vehicle as promised and instead converted the money to his personal use.

Dhliwayo was arrested on June 5, 2025, and is expected to appear in court soon as police continue their investigations.
