NYAZURA-AN ENRAGED man axed his young brother at night while he was sleeping by the side of his mother following a misunderstanding over an undisclosed matter.
Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka who is the acting police spokesperson for Manicaland Province told The Midweek Watch that the late Holy Chinzou (13) and his brother Tanaka Chinzou (22) both of Maonahwangu Village under Chief Chipunza in Nyazura had a misunderstanding on February 11 in the afternoon.
At around 1030pm Holy and their mother Janet Mashinga (47) retired to bed, but before they slept the deceased went to Tanaka’s bedroom to get a torch to light the room before they slept.
Tanaka refused to respond to Holy’s enquiry about the torch.
Holy and her mother slept in the darkness and in the middle of the night Tanaka budged into his mother’s bedroom and struck Holy with an axe in the head.
Janet tried to retrain Tanaka but was overpowered and she bolted out of the room to seek help from their neighbor, Agrippa Chinzou (57).
They came back together and found the accused seated outside while the deceased’s body was lying in a pool of blood.
The matter was reported to ZRP Nyazura who arrested the suspect and took the body to Rusape General Hospital.
