A bus driver, Limbikani Mwanandi (36) was arrested on March 9, 2025, for transporting a large consignment of dagga worth USD 12,000.
The bus was travelling from South Africa to Harare when it was intercepted by detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit, who had received a tip-off about the illicit cargo.
Masvingo province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the case saying, that on 08 March at around 0100hours the CID received the information.
The bus was spotted at Mashava turn-off coming from Beitbridge, offloading the dagga into a Nissan which was being driven by Speakmore Mhonda (39).
The bus was searched, revealing a hidden compartment containing 200kgs of dagga, valued at USD12,000. The bus was also carrying a consignment of 17 plastics, which were allegedly being used to conceal the dagga.
Dhewa said Mhonda and Mwanandi were arrested.
The police have commended the public for their vigilance and cooperation in helping to combat the drug menace.
“We want to assure the public that the information that they give us will be put into good use to help combat the use of drugs and substance abuse”, said Dhewa.
