MIDWEEK REPORTER

CHIVI-One of the youthful contestants in the indefinitely postponed Zanu PF primary elections has vowed to end Zimbabwe’s longest serving councillor, Sanders Magwizi’s reign in Chivi ward 2.

Vibrant young businessman, Aynos Chigombe has said Magwizi’s time as ward 2 councillor is up and the primary elections will mark the end of his long political life in Chivi which spans over four decades.

“There is a time for everything and Magwizi’s time has come to an end as I am going to trounce him hands down, if the primary elections had not been postponed, by now I would have started celebrating.

“In any case I have started campaigning for the actual elections as this one is a done deal, bye, bye Cde Magwizi, you served your time and it is time for me to take over.

“Its time for the old man to retire and hand over the reigns to us the young politicians who still have energy to deliver and run around, zvikomana zvinotumika zvichimanya,” said Chigombe.

Magwizi has been Chivi ward 2 councillor on the revolutionary party’s ticket since the country gained Independence in 1980 and is seeking re-election.

Chigombe said the electorate cannot invest their future in old leaders as they have no ambition or vision.

“The youth cannot entrust their future in the past, these guys have done what they could and it is time for us to show them that we are the future,” said the exuberant Chigombe.

When contacted by The Midweek Watch Magwizi said the voters will decide whom they want to be their next councillor and expressed confidence of retaining his seat.

“I am very much in the ring and the people will make their choice and we will respect their decision,” said the soft spoken politician and shrewd businessman who has seen it all at local authority level.
