Police in Masvingo have launched a manhunt for two unknown suspects following a suspected attempted murder incident that occurred in Chikato, Mucheke area on the night of September 12.
According to ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the victim, Elliott Machaya (33) of Victoria Range, was found lying unconscious near the Zion Christian Church in Victoria Range with serious injuries to his head and face.
The incident is believed to have started around 10:00 PM at Machaya Bar in Chikato, where the complainant was drinking beer.
A misunderstanding reportedly occurred between Machaya and two unidentified men, prompting them to briefly step outside the bar, Machaya returned and continued drinking.
At around 10:30 PM, the bar owner, Corneli Machaya (27), closed the premises for the night.
The following morning, at around 6:00 AM, Corneli returned to the area to conduct a stock take and was shocked to find Elliott unconscious by the roadside, severely injured.
Police attended the scene and observed that the victim had a bruised face, a deep cut on the left eye, and a serious head wounds.
He was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he remains admitted in serious condition.
Inspector Dhewa confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects are still at large. The ZRP is appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have information on the attackers to come forward and assist with the investigation.
