CHIREDZIWomen in Chiredzi were left shell-shocked after they were allocated a mining claim under the Chiambala Funza Mining Syndicate at the launch of Miners4ED in Chiredzi.

The handover was held at a colourful ceremony held at the classy Clevers Hotel in Chiredzi last Sunday.

The tiles and plates claim was allocated to all Chiambala Funza Syndicate directors’ 10 wives.

Treasurer general for Miners4ED for Masvingo Province, Naison Majambwa, pledged to assist the women with the yellow machinery needed to mine their ore in return of 10% of the ore.

The Syndicate director, a liberation war icon in his own right, Admore Hwarare revealed that operations at the mine are expected to start on Wednesday next week and the women will get their 65% shares as a way of empowering them.

He said the women have been working so hard in the past to make sure Chiambala Funza Mining Syndicate became a success by supporting the directors and never got a chance to get anything in return.

“We will begin excavation on Wednesday and the women will get their 65% share, these women have been doing a great job in looking after our directors, so this is the right time to give them something back so that they understand the type of work their husbands are into,” said Hwarare.

Daina Chauke wife to Chief Chilonga’s representative, Hlengani Chauke, expressed her gratitude towards the good initiative and said that it is going to help a lot of women as they will also remember to give back to the community.

“We have been uplifted without having contributed anything financially, so am very happy.

” I do not have much to say since I have to first confirm with the others how we are going to run our mine, but am quite sure this is going to benefit a lot of people especially other women as we would make sure that we give back to the community,” said Chauke.

Meanwhile shares for the syndicate were being sold for US$150 for the youths and US$500 for adults per share after paying a joining fee of US$50.

Those with claims, but do not have the capacity to work on it were also allowed to join and the syndicate would register the mine and the owner would get 25% of the proceeds.

The syndicate which is the brainchild of Hwarare is also involved in gold, lithium, coal, chrome and other precious minerals throughout Masvingo Province.

The event was also graced by Miners4ED patron, Joel Muzhamba.
