Latest on Mushandike Govasberg bus accident

Eyewitnesses have told The Midweek Watch that two people died on the spot and two others at hospital when a Govasberg Services bus hit a tractor near Mushandike along Mashava Masvingo Road.

The accident happened today in the morning when a Govasberg Services bus travelling from Masvingo tried to overtake a tractor and suddenly went back to its lane upon seeing an oncoming vehicle, hitting the tractor into pieces and killing two people on the spot.

The tractor was laden with gold ore for milling at one of the gold mills doted in Mashava area.

The other two people are said to have died at the hospital.

Masvingo Province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa referred all questions to Commissioner Paul Nyathi whose mobile number was not available by the time of posting the story but a post on their X handle confirmed that indeed four people died.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred today at around 1100 hours at the 34 kilometre peg along Masvingo-Mbalabala Road. Four people were killed when a Govasberg bus collided with a tractor. More details will be released in due course,” reads the statement.

The accident involving a tractor comes days after two senior security officers were killed when a vehicle rammed into a stationery tractor at Mutimurefu Prison Farm 22km from Masvingo along Mutare road.
