Tawanda Jumo.

Spokesperson of the organising team Sydney Munemo in an interview with The Midweek Watch said they are aimed at promoting talent from all walks of life including models, musicians, actors, DJs among others.

“We are inviting anyone who feels they have something to offer to the arts industry in Kwekwe.

“We can create a vibrant and thriving arts scene that showcases the best of our city’s talent,” he said.

He said revamped Kwekwe Podium which is hosted by Bantu Entertainment Zimbabwe has received clearance from the police with the aim of reducing crime through providing youths with a creative outlet which campaigns against drug and substance abuse.

“The podium is a brainchild of musician, producer and teacher Tawanda ‘Bantuman’ Jumo in partnership with Kwekwe City Council with an aim to promote artistic talent and campaign against drug and substance abuse,” he said.

The Kwekwe podium which is based at Kwekwe Theatre is the hub of cultural activities like dance, poetry, painting, script writing, music, drama among other forms of entertainment.

In an interview, Jumo said the primary objective of the podium project is to revive art, culture, music and drama in the Midlands province.

“This programme will provide a platform which allows youths in Kwekwe and from the whole Midlands province to showcase and market themselves through public performances. It is also aimed at educating the youths on how to become professional artists through art and music,” he said.

He said the platform will also feature a range of categories which include urban music, gospel music, mbira, ngano, bheriya and muchongoyo among others with the Kwekwe Podium Awards slated for December this year.
