Kenzie guard gets 30 days for unlawful firearm discharge

MBERENGWA – Tapiwa Simasiku who is employed as security guard at Kenzie 16 Mine has been fined US$50 or one month in prison by Mberengwa Magistrate, Charity Tonongera for unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Simasiku was sentenced on Monday this week for shooting a panner for alleged gold ore theft.

He was charged with the offense of failure to comply with conditions or subject to which a firearm certificate is held. He shot Kelvin Muzengeza for allegedly stealing gold ore at Kenzie 16 Mine.

Prosecutor Romeo Zibani said on January 25, 2023 at around 840pm Simasiku was on duty at Kenzie 16 Mine.

 He went to Kenzie 16 farm and took an FN Browning 2000 12 Bore Shot gun whose sole purpose of crop or livestock protection at the farm.

Whilst at the mine Simasiku intercepted Muzengeza and his accomplices for stealing gold ore. He produced a firearm and shot Muzengeza once on the left thigh after the intruders became violent and charged towards him. Muzengeza sustained an open wound.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Simasiku. The used FN Browning 2000 12 Bore Shot gun serial number V-49750C47 was taken for examination and was produced in court as an exhibit.
