MIDWEEK REPORTER

MASVINGO RURAL-Four schools in Masvingo Central Constituency in ward 18 have been hit by a violent hailstorm leaving a trail of destruction and exposing hundreds of learners to the vagaries of the unfriendly weather.

A teacher’s house had its roof blown away.

The heavy rains pounded the area from 2pm to around 4pm on Monday leaving learners with no option except to troop back home.

The schools whose roofs were blown away are Chavanhu Secondary with 86 learners; Njovo Primary 340; Chekai Primary 395; Matsikidze Primary has 385 learners affected by the hailstorm, ward 18 councillor Fanuel Chinyengetere told The Midweek Watch.

Chinyengetere said they will carry out an assessment on Tuesday to find out the extent of the damage and map the way forward with the traditional leaders, and the affected school heads.

Masvingo Central legislator, Edison Zvobgo Jnr said the local leadership together with the school heads must compile a report that he will forward to the relevant authorities so that the learners quickly get help to bring normalcy to the affected institutions.
