Jealous lover murders ex wife at homemade beer gathering

Chipinge – What started as a home brewed beer drinking party ended in tears as man consumed with jealousy brutally murdered his ex wife at the homestead.

The incident happened at local brew gathering which was held at Munopera homestead in Chidzvururwi Village under Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge where Ratidzo Munopera(24) was beaten to death by her ex-husband Themba Mberengwa(39).

Police spokesperson for Manicaland Province, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that on Friday ,19 April at around 2 pm Mberengwa went to Munopera’s homestead to drink beer, where he found Ratidzo selling home brewed beer.

Mberengwa and Ratidzo were once married and have a two year old baby girl, but broke up in 2023.

It is alleged that a misunderstanding arose between the two after Mberengwa raised allegations of infidelity against the deceased.

The accused slapped Ratidzo several times on the face and was restrained by Kunesu Mutsotsa who was also part of the gathering. He took him out of the yard and tried to calm him down.

After 30 minutes, Mberengwa came back and struck Ratidzo twice with fists, once on the face and once below her left ear. Ratidzo became unconscious and fell. A neighbor, Mwanise Moyo(51) tried to render first aid by pouring water on her but to no vail.

Mberengwa fled from the scene and is still at large.

The police are appealing for information which may lead to his arrest.

Ratidzo was rushed to St Peter’s hospital and she was pronounced dead upon arrival. A postmortem was done and no visible injuries were observed, only blood on the mouth.
