January disease outbreak, Buhera quarantined

BUHERA – Buhera district veterinary services department have confirmed the outbreak of the theileriosis or commonly known as January disease in the semi arid district.

In a memorandum addressed to all government departments, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and Buhera Business Community, District Veterinary officer, Doctor Samson Chiduku said Buhera has been put under quarantine.

“You are hereby notified that the land under Munyanyi, Murambinda and Buhera office, in the district of Buhera on which there are infected or suspected to be infected with theileriosis/January disease, is placed in quarantine for a period of 28 days,

“During this period no cattle may be moved from or allowed to stray from the above mentioned land,” wrote Dr Chiduku.

He also said that affected dip tanks are Nhamo, Baravara, Mutauto, Homora, Mhandambiri, Nyamasanga, Hwata, Murairwa and Dzivaravhika.

January disease has killed over 100 cattle in the Midlands Province recently and is threatening the country’s herd.
