KAODOMA-Jameson High School in Kadoma City, Mashonaland West Province will on Saturday host the annual World Blood Donor Day celebrations.

The WBDD is a day set aside by the World Health Organisation to celebrate the contributions of voluntary, unpaid blood donors for the lives that they save.

The event is organized by the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ), and the celebration also aims to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and to express gratitude to those who donate selflessly to save lives.

The theme of this year’s campaign, ‘Give blood, give hope—together we save lives,’ highlights the critical role that blood donors play in sustaining national health and providing hope for patients in need of transfusions.

NBSZ Communications Officer Vickie Maponga said that the national target this year is 600 donations on the day and urged those who are eligible to come forward and become heroes in someone’s story.

The event in Kadoma will feature speeches, testimonials, and community engagement activities, but one of the most impactful moments will come just days before.

“On Wednesday, June 11th, a symbolic procession will be held, starting at Africa Unity Square and ending at the NBSZ headquarters.

“The march attracts representatives from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), both of which have consistently supported NBSZ’s mission over the years,” said Maponga.

Their involvement will reinforce the idea that saving lives through blood donation is a shared national responsibility.

On the specific day, stories of hope and survival will take center stage and testimonies from those whose lives had been saved thanks to blood donors serves as powerful reminders of why this cause matters.

“NBSZ extend a heartfelt invitation to individuals, businesses, and organizations to support the campaign, not only through donations but also through advocacy, sponsorship, and awareness,” she added.
