MILLICENT HUNGWE
Notorious jailbird escapee Felisino Sibango also known as Fidelis Joramu Mauyangwe has been rearrested after escaping from Mutimurefu Prison.
Joramu was arrested on May 7 in Chiredzi after having escaped on March 5 during a tomato harvest at Zishumbe Resettlement area, where he stole a prison car, a white Nissan Navara, which they later abandoned after an accident.
Joramu was arrested for stealing a vehicle in Chiredzi, the same offence he was arrested for before he made the dramatic escape from prison in March.
According to ZRP Masvingo Province spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the complainant, Munyaradzi Fatini (31), reported that Sibango, along with his accomplices Beverly Matombi (27) and Admire Shumba (30), also known as Magazini, broke into Fatini’s residence and stole a Nissan Vanette motor vehicle valued at $6,000.
Sibango’s history of crime dates back to his previous conviction and sentencing to three years imprisonment for theft of a motor vehicle on June 24, 2024.
He had served only eight months before escaping from prison.
The police swiftly acted on a tip-off on May 10, locating Sibango at Village 7 in Mkwasine with the stolen vehicle.
He was arrested, positively identified by the owner of the vehicle, and led to the recovery of the car.
Sibango also assisted in the arrest of his accomplices.
Inspector Dhewa applauded members of the public for providing crucial information that led to the arrest of the criminals.
