GWERU—As autumn settles over the Midlands with cool evenings and clear skies, music lovers in Gweru are preparing for more than just a concert, they are anticipating a cultural moment as Zimbabwean music star Jah Prayzah headlines “The Jah Experience” this Saturday (today).
After months of heavy rains that slowed down outdoor entertainment, the city’s nightlife is bouncing back, with fans eager to reconnect with live music.
For many, the return of shows is not only about entertainment but also about celebrating an artist whose music has shaped conversations around identity, discipline and social responsibility.
Local fan Layla Sithole said Jah Prayzah’s music resonates beyond the dancefloor.
“His songs speak to everyday life. When he sings about perseverance and respect, people listen. It’s the kind of music that makes you think about your choices,” she said.
Another admirer, Clifford Moyo, believes the musician’s storytelling has helped influence positive behaviour among young people.
“Some of his songs encourage humility, hard work and respect for culture. A lot of youths relate to that message, especially when it comes from someone they admire,” he said.
The award-winning performer, recently named Outstanding Male Musician of the Year at the National Arts Merit Awards.
He has built a reputation for blending contemporary sound with traditional Zimbabwean themes, a formula that has helped his music travel across generations.
Music analyst and local promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza said Jah Prayzah’s influence extends beyond entertainment.
“Jah Prayzah’s music carries messages about unity, discipline and cultural pride. That’s why his shows attract people from all walks of life. Fans don’t only come to dance, they come to experience the story behind the music,” he said.
Chimbodza confirmed that preparations for the show are complete, adding that favourable autumn weather is expected to boost attendance.
“We’ve done everything to prepare for the event. The weather is favourable and the excitement among fans is visible across the city. We expect a memorable night,” he said.
The show will also showcase rising and established talent, with performers including Tamy Moyo as well as local acts Unkut, DJ Crocx and MC Tiff.
