-We need a bridge MP
Dear Editor
Mutirikwi River stretches from Serima area in Gutu, if my memory serves me well. It passes through Gutu South communal areas and finds home at Lake Mutirikwi.
From the lake the water is now distributed to supply the rich fertile lands of Chiredzi, which is home to Tongaat Hullets.
Sugar cane, maize and other staple foods are grown with ease in the Lowveld, due to its soil fertility and the high growth rate of plants is quickly reached. With two inland lakes in Masvingo province, we are for sure a green belt as all the areas lying south of the lakes have uninterrupted water supply throughout.
Mutirikwi river separates my hood, Guni and Masvingise. At Masvingise you find Masvingise Primary and the newly ordained SDA’ s Mundondo Boarding High School. In the north of Masvingise, they are Rupiri and Nerupiri Gvt School. On my Guni area side, there are Mutendeure, Guni, Gono, and Chimedza schools. Although these schools have secondary facilities, many prefer to learn at Mundondo and Nerupiri Secondary schools. That is where Mutirikwi river features as an undesirable natural feature because during the rain season it is inaccessible. The river does not have any bridge to take communal people across it.
There is an invert which was built in the 1950s by the Rhodesians so that they can get to the other side of the river. The pupil (pictured) you see crossing the river, does so because the river is not flooded. If it rains upstream that’s when you realize the river must be shifted somewhere so that the recipients, will also experience our hardships.
We are asking our Hon. MP, Cde Pupurai ‘Bhotoromiyo’ Togarepi to put us in mind in the next disbursement of the Constituency Development Fund. It’s long overdue that the bridge is not the talk of the campaign. It is really a campaign material and fulfilling that promise, and you will be our God sent, Mr Togarepi .
