Ireland Road finally opened to traffic
MIDWEEK REPORTER
ZVISHAVANE- Motorists in Zvishavane plying the route that stretches from Ireland to Noelvale, Hillview and Nil township have expressed relief after the road was finally opened to traffic following several moths of refurbishment.
The road has been under refurbishment by JM Construction.
The road was in bad state after the closure of the now defunct Shabanie Mine as it was characterized by poor drainage system, pot holes and was told even a menace in the rainy season where cars would sometimes get stuck in the floods.
During the refurbishment period motorists were forced to use longer routes which was very expensive due to increase ion price of fuel and spare parts.
Commuter operator who spoke to Midweek Watch said that they are excited to have the road being trafficable as it will be convenient for them and the customers.
” The road had been closed for long but it has since been opened which is good for us as it will make our work better.
“It has been difficult to make any profit as fuel prices were high at the same time using longer routes. We were just breaking even without making any profit,” he said.
