In search of African Renaissance and Freedom…
The Oxford English Dictionary defines ‘renaissance’ as a rebirth or revival. This can historically, emphasize the transition period between ancient and modern times. Past and present!
As I was reading the Jewish History (The Holy Bible) I came across some interesting stories, that of Abram, Jacob and Joseph just to mention but a few. There are two simliarities on events on these three Jewish figures:
-They changed environment
*From Ur to Canaan (Abraham), Canaan to Haran in Mesopotamia (Jacob)…From Canaan to Egypt (Joseph).
-They had their names changed
*From Abram to Abraham…Jacob to Israel and Joseph to Zaphenath Paneah.
I think an African rebirth or revival demands the same approach. The change of environment and the change of a name or title..Go to where the waters are and be called a ‘farmer’ not a ‘graduate’…..Go to town and be called a ‘vendor’…..Go to the field to research and be called a ‘historian’ or ‘narrator’ or ‘archeologist’….We must not celebrated when ‘no visa’ accords are signed. Visas have not limited our opportunities to move forward but the willingness to change our environment and titles. Some people just want Africa to be called the ‘oppressed’ or ‘poor’..Real celebration should be when an environment we wish to blend to change our name or title or history has been offered….and that’s the true rebirth. And the core objective of ‘education’ is for us to unlock these two fundamentals and master them to become the purpose of our new lives…I am subject to my opinion I must presume…..
