MASVINGO–Former Chivi South MP, Killer Zivhu who was expelled from Zanu PF for pushing for a meeting between the First Lady and opposition leader’s wife Sithokozile Chamisa has said he will not stand as an independent in the forthcoming elections.
The businessman turned politician cleared the air at a Press conference held at Junior Complex on Wednesday in Masvingo attended by all media house form the ancient city where he vowed to campaign for President Mnangagwa throughout the country and rally behind the Zanu PF candidate for Chivi South.
The Press conference comes on the backdrop of speculation and night vigils involving traditional leaders, Zanu PF councillors and local leadership in Chivi South in the past few weeks to convince Zivhu to stand as an independent candidate in the constituency.
“I am pleading with the leadership and other party members in Chivi South to stop campaigning for me as I am not going to be contesting the elections as independent candidate.
“I am Zanu PF by birth and will not stand against my party for whatever reasons, I will rally behind the chosen candidate and President Mnangagwa to win the 2023 elections resoundingly,” said Zivhu.
“I was born Zanu PF and my whole life I have known only the ruling party therefore it will be pointless of me to contest against the party that I grew up in so, people should desist from saying that I want to join the race because i am going to be campaigning for the president and the one who got elected for Chivi South”.
Zivhu went on to say that he was expelled from the ruling party and he has written an apology to Zanu PF leadership and he is waiting for a response.
He also said he is happy as people still respect him in the constituency and he is not stopping doing what he used to do before he became an MP and when he was expelled as he has the people at heart.
He went on to mention that as the president of Zimbabwe Cross Boarder Traders Association (ZCBTA) they are going to go around all the ten provinces to preach to the traders to vote and rally behind Zanu PF candidates from ward to the President Mnangagwa.
“Despite the rumours that are circulating, I am going to rally behind the ruling party and I will rope in ZCBTA in all the ten provinces campaigning for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling party as a whole to get more so that we increase our votes and we will be urging all traders to register to vote and make sure they come back home in time so that they vote with others,” said Zivhu.
Meanwhile, Zivhu cleared the air on his tweets and said social media is a minefield and one cannot confirm certain posts.
He further said when he tweets things that some people deem controversial, he will be fighting corruption and bad governance not fighting the President.
“People tend to misquote my tweets for going against Zanu PF and my President but the issue is I am against those people who hide behind the President for corruption, my point is to let everyone know so that those involved stop their shenanigans,” said Zivhu.
