MUTARE-A Mutare man is on the run after allegedly brutally axing his wife to death over domestic dispute.
Manicaland Provincial deputy Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident that happened yesterday at Number 3222 Hob House 3, Mutare.
Ass Insp Chinyoka said Police are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Innocent Mujeni(30) of Number 3222 Hob House 3 in Mutare to report to any nearest police station.
Circumstances are that Mujeni and his wife Vimbai Muchingamwa (30) were sleeping in a two roomed cabin tuckshop and around 3am a misunderstanding ensued over an unknown issue. This woke up their 8 year old daughter who was sleeping in the other room.
Mujeni chased the child and threatened as he ordered her to sleep.
The two started fighting and Mujeni allegedly took an axe, struck Muchingamwa several times on the head and she died on the spot.
At around 5am, Mujeni gave the child a loaf of bread, cerevita, sugar and instructed her to give her maternal grandmother, Jessica Muchingamwa.
Mujeni also gave Esther Makota, a neighbour US$9 and instructed her to pay for the bread delivery from Bakers Inn.
Mujeni lied to Makota that his wife had gone to town. He also told her that he was going to town that is why he had left the money to pay Bakers Inn.
Makota was not satisfied by Mujeni’s explanations since she heard them fight at night.
Makota went to Jessica’s place and told her about her suspicions at around 11am. Jessica came at around 3pm and broke the door open and found her daughter’s body in the house.
The matter was reported at Chikanga Police Station. Muchingamwa’s body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post mortem.
