Hundreds of people from across the length and breadth of Mwenezi converged at the District Heroes Acre at Neshuro on Monday as the residents joined the nation in honoring the gallant sons and daughters of the soil, who sacrificed their lives for the Independence of Zimbabwe.

Mwenezi District Development Coordinator, Isaac Mutambara officiated at the ceremony and delivered President Mnangagwa’s speech which chronicled the significance of the day and the nation’s trajectory. Mutambara, hailed the people of Mwenezi for turning out in their numbers for the iconic event.
“The attendance here is amazing, this is historic, may we continue as a district to honor State events. This level of patriotism is a recipe for development as we carry forward the aspirations of living and fallen heroes of our country” echoed Mutambara, who later led the laying of wreaths, on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Obert Mubaiwa, Mwenezi District War Veterans Chairperson hailed the organizers of the event for a job well done.

“I would like to salute the District events organising team for doing a wonderful job. The smooth flow of events here and the huge attendance is a testimony of love for our country and respect for those who sacrificed their lives for the Independence of our country”
MP for Mwenezi North Constituency, Master Makope commented the youths for attending the commemorations in their numbers. “l am humbled by the high turn out of the youths at this event…..this sense of patriotism is key in nation building. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo .” acknowledged Makope.
The event was punctuated by captivating presentations which kept the audience glued to the stage. Dube and crew took the elderly through the memory lane, with a well organised dramatization of fierce battles which freedom fighters waged against Rhodesian forces, ultimately leading to the Independence of Zimbabwe.
Chiteretere Crew fronted by Agripa Tivarere offered a touching performance in honor of Paul Matavire, the legendary wordsmith cum musician who hailed from Maranda in Mwenezi.
