Helen McGhie raises Masvingo flag at national quiz

One of the best schools in Masvingo, Helen Mcghie raised the province’s flag high at the national quiz competition by coming out a respectable third position.

The 2025 National Primary Schools Heritage Quiz Competitions were sponsored by Zimbabwe Free Range Poultry association (ZFRPA) who provided prizes ranging from cash to day old chicks.

The 2025 national primary schools heritage quiz competition were held in Mutare at Mutare Museum on May 16, 2025.

 Helen McGhie, secured third position after a tiebreaker with Mashonaland Central while the Midlands Province emerged as the overall winner with Mashonaland Central on second place.

Despite tying with Mashonaland Central on 36 points, Masvingo was edged out to third position after the tiebreaker. However, Helen McGie’s outstanding performance earned them a prize of 100 day-old chicks and $415 in cash.

The school head Brian Gomba confirmed the development to The Midweek Watch.

“We are thrilled to have represented Masvingo and contributed to our province’s success, it was a tough competition, but we are proud of what we have achieved. This recognition will surely motivate us to work even harder in the future,” said Gomba.

“The competition aimed to promote cultural awareness and appreciation, and Masvingo’s third-place finish is a testament to the province’s growing talent and dedication to excellence,” he added.

Gomba praised the organizers for hosting the event and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate.

“Events like these bring people together and foster a sense of community, we are honored to have been part of it,” added Gomba.
