CHIPINGE-The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) has stopped the production of water in Birchenough Bridge, Chipangayi and Checheche areas.
In a statement, ZINWA said this was due to the spillage of some hazardous substances into Murare River after a South Africa bound truck transporting chemicals was involved in an accident along the Mutare-Masvingo Highway.
“For the safety of the public, ZINWA has thus stopped water production at Birchenough Bridge, Chipangayi and Checheche water supply stations while tests are being conducted to establish the extent of the contamination which have occurred. Relevant government arms and agencies have been advised of this development and are working together with ZINWA to ensure the expeditious implementation of any necessary remedial action.
“Clients and stakeholders are therefore requested to be patient while these processes are underway.
“The authority will continuously update clients and stakeholders on any further developments as they occur” reads part of the statement.
