Harare man arrested for smuggling clothes

GOKWE- Gokwe Police has arrested a Harare man for smuggling of clothes and shoes into the country.

According to Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Victor Chinyike (46) who operates a flea market in Harare, was arrested yesterday along the Gokwe-Siabuwa road in the Svisvi area.

Chinyike was found transporting 62 sacks of 50-kilogram new shoes, three bales of Java garments, and one bale of second-hand clothes.

The total value of the recovered consignment has not yet been determined, Insp Mahoko said.

Chinyike’s arrest is part of a nationwide operation against goods smuggling launched by the government in November 2024, added Insp Mahoko.

He commended members of the public who provide information and support to police during the operation.
