Great Zimbabwe University recently unveiled a groundbreaking Mobile Mental Health Clinic service, a heritage-based initiative, that aims to leverage existing resources within the university and the community to provide essential mental health support to vulnerable members of the community.
The Mobile Mental Health Clinic sees teams of GZU psychology students and lecturers moving around communities giving mental health consultations and services directly to less privileged members of the community.

In the first quarter of 2024, the clinic provided psychological services to 486 vulnerable members of the community in Chingwizi, Zaka, Masvingo Urban and Mashava at no cost.
The clinic targets people at increased risk of various psychosocial problems who include pregnant women, single mothers, widows, and idle men who have lost the means to take care of their families.
In addition, young men at risk of detention, being targets of violence, abused children, elderly people, the less privileged, people who have been exposed to traumatic events, people in the community with pre-existing conditions like severe physical, neurological or mental disabilities or disorders and those with problems of Drug and Substance Misuse within communities are also targeted.
