GZU hosts business science conference

MASVINGOGreat Zimbabwe University held an economic and business science conference where different academics coming from different institutions in the country gathered to discuss issues of upgrading of entrepreneurs.

The workshop was officially opened by Joseph Mverecha, Agriculture Finance Corporation chief economist at Urban Lifestyles Hotel in Masvingo.

The conference was running under the theme “Strengthening Sustainable Economic Development Through Entreprenuership Science and Innovation”.

Mverecha in said that the country look forward to intellectuals for research, innovation, enterprise development, optimisation, economic growth strategies, poverty reduction and re-formalisation of the economy.

“Zimbabwe looks up to the intellectuals for research, innovation, enterprise development, optimisation, economic growth strategies, poverty reduction and re-formalisation of the economy,” said Mverecha.

Mverecha went on to say that the restoration of Zimbabwe’s dignity lies in the hands of the intellectuals and education should be transformative, harness technology and must be relevant to our community and the nation at large.

“Education must solve the myriad of challenges we face as a people in business, health, production and distribution hence changing the trajectory of Zimbabwe. Therefore, through the business seminars like this one ideas are distilled, condensed and processed to flow to industry, increasing production and productivity for intergenerational wealth creation”, said Mverecha.

Acting Pro Vice Chancellor, Industrialisation, Business Development and Strategic Partnerships, Prof Bernard Chazovachii standing in for the Vice Chancellor Prof Rungano Zvobgo in his welcome remarks said that entrepreneurship plays a very pivotal role in the development equation as a vehicle for socio-economic and political development.

“Essentially communities require robust mind-shift towards embracing entrepreneurship, science and innovation and view these as tools for sustainable economic development” said Prof Chazovachii.
