MIDWEEK REPORTER
MASVINGO-The Great Zimbabwe University is having sleepless nights over the choice of venue for the 2024 graduation ceremony due to security issues, The Midweek Watch has learnt.
Sources close to the biggest learning institution in Masvingo Province told this publication that Mashava Campus had been chosen to host the event which is graced by the GZU Chancellor, President Mnangagwa but security experts are not comfortable with the venue especially after the birthday bash helicopter crash.
“The venue headache is caused by the birthday helicopter crash incident and security experts are not comfortable with the President going to Mashava despite the fact that all the preparations had been made for the graduation to happen at the former asbestos mine,” said the source on condition of anonymity.
Under normal circumstances the venue of the graduation would have been announced long back, but the situation is different this time around due serious security issues that need to be addressed.
The GZU information and public relations director, Anderson Chipatiso confirmed that they are yet to come up with a venue when contacted two weeks ago, on Monday he reiterated that the situation has not changed and the venue will be made public soon.
“We are yet to finalise on the graduation venue which is either Mashava or our main campus, but we will let you know as soon as we are through with that,” said Chipatiso.
He added that the date of the graduation ceremony remains November 1.
