GWERU- Gweru City Council has threatened a blitz on tuck-shops which are operating illegally as well as some which are operating outside their trading licences.
In a statement, the local authority threatened to take a legal route to those who fail to comply.
“Please be advised that the sale of alcohol or any alcoholic substances is strictly prohibited on your premises.
“Failure to comply with this regulation will result in prosecution. Ensure your adherence to the terms and conditions of your shop licence to avoid any penalties,” reads part of the statement.
The proliferation of informal tuck shops in Gweru and other towns across the country has taken over the taste of time as supermarkets are struggling to keep head above water.
Established supermarket chains like OK Zimbabwe are facing headwinds, with some closing down as a result of economic downturn.
