GWERU-Three unknown suspects armed with an axe and a hoe ransacked a Gweru homestead, raped two minors, took away cash, two laptops and cell phones before they drove away with the family Nissan Caravan car containing various hardware tools for sale.
Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko (pictured) confirmed the heinous crime that occurred in Ascot, Gweru today at around 3am.
He said the three who are still at large, stormed the family entrance and forcibly opened the door using iron bars.
“On the fateful night, the three unknown accused persons forcibly opened the family’s entrance door using iron bars and suddenly demanded cash from the occupants while threatening them with death. They were armed with an axe and a hoe.
“They went on to tie the husband and his wife with a twine, covered them with blankets and assaulted them whilst demanding cash. They then ransacked the whole house searching for cash and some portable valuables. They further took the Nissan caravan keys. They went on to rape the family’s two children who were sleeping in another bedroom,” said Insp Mahoko.
He told The Midweek Watch that the goods lost are valued at US$14 770.
Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public who may have information leading to the arrest of the suspects to approach any nearest police station.
He urged members of the public to enhance their security measures especially when they keep high value property and discouraged people from keeping large sums of money in their houses.
