Gweru family left US$24k poorer by armed robbers

GWERU-Daring six robbers on Wednesday, pounced on Gweru family in Southview suburb and took away cash and property worth US$24,000.
The terrifying incident took place in the dead of the night when audacious armed robbers forcefully entered Anthony Shanji’s residence.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Shanji (55) and his wife, were asleep alongside their daughters when the menacing intruders struck at 12:15 a.m.
He said the gang brandishing a loaded pistol, subjected the family to a terrifying ordeal, using electric cables to bind them.
The undeterred criminals ransacked the house with ruthless efficiency, seizing valuables.
Among the stolen items were US$3,005 in cash, two HP and one Lenovo laptops, two 55-inch television sets (a Samsung and an LG LED), ten brand new blankets, and an assortment of cellphones, said Insp Mahoko.
They then loaded their plunder into the family’s black Toyota Rav 4, registration number AES 5227, before speeding off from the scene.
Insp Mahoko added that the six suspects responsible for this brazen act remain at large, as the shocked family fail to come to terms with the traumatic incident.
He appealed to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the culprits to approach the nearest police station.
